D’Tigress of Nigeria, the current African champions, have been assigned to Group D for the eagerly awaited 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
D’Tigress are grouped together with Mozambique and Rwanda in the tournament that will take place in Côte d’Ivoire from July 26 to August 3.
The Nigerian women’s basketball team, under head coach Rena Wakama, is keen to defend their title and achieve an unprecedented seventh championship victory in the tournament.
After D’Tigress demonstrated their skill by advancing to the quarter-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, expectations are elevated for the team to capitalize on their recent achievements.
Their resolve and experience will be key as they seek to further entrench their supremacy in African women’s basketball at the forthcoming AfroBasket Championship.
Keep in mind that the D’Tigress are the most formidable team in the tournament. Having won the last four tournament editions, if they secure victory this year, it will mark their fifth consecutive triumph in the AfroBasket Championship and their seventh overall
This year, in Group A, the host country Côte d’Ivoire will compete against well-known teams Angola and Egypt. Meanwhile, Group B consists of the competitive teams Mali, Cameroon, and South Sudan. Senegal, Uganda, and Guinea will compete against each other in Group C.
