Political parties in the South West have been urged by the Muslim Rights Concern, or MURIC, to nominate Muslim candidates for governor in 2027. In a statement released on Monday, the group’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, made the call.
Akintola pointed out that during the last six years, Christians have controlled all six of the region’s states, resulting in what it called a “religious imbalance.”
Since all of the South Western states have so far had Christian governors, there has been a religious imbalance in their administrations over the last six years.
According to Akintola, “this has led to a wide disconnect between the state governments and the Muslim populace.”
He went on to say that Muslims have been shut out “at both executive and administrative levels of governance,” which he claimed weakens democracy by preventing people from participating and being included.As a result, we recommend that political parties in the area select Muslim candidates for governor. He claimed that this would ensure Muslim support in their gubernatorial elections.
