The Social Democratic Party National Working Committee has suspended Shehu Gabam, its national leader, and two other members due to serious financial malfeasance charges amid a developing crisis.
This was revealed by the party’s spokesman, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday.
The National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and the party’s National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma are the other members suspended.
The party claims that the trio’s ban is effective immediately.
“In the exercise of its exclusive powers as provided in Article 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the Party Constitution (2022 as amended), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has approved the immediate suspension of Alhaji Shehu Musa Gbam, the Party’s national chairman, and two NWC members, National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma, due to serious allegations of embezzlement, misappropriation, diversion, and embezzlement of party funds.
According to the statement, “the decision followed a resolution of a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC), where overwhelming evidence was presented linking the suspended officials to a series of unregulated financial transactions, personal enrichment schemes, and movement of funds from the party’s accounts without necessary approvals of the NWC.”
This follows a Tuesday DAILY POST story about demonstrators tearing down the fence to the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
