There isn’t a vacancy in Aso Rock, according to the Yoruba Ni Colorado YNC, an umbrella organization for all Yoruba in Colorado, US, ahead of the general elections in 2027.
While on a working visit to the Tinubu Support Group, or TSG, in Abuja on Tuesday, the group made the announcement.
Dr. Adetola Obiwole, the president of the YNC, asked the National Assembly to enact the required constitutional reforms to permit voting by the Diaspora. He stated that the YNC was in Nigeria with a medical team to treat several underprivileged communities.
“We are using this platform to urge the National Assembly to expedite work on legislation that would guarantee diaspora voting and to reiterate our unwavering support for President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” she stated.
Prince George Sotade, the general secretary of the YNC, announced that Nigerians living abroad, especially those in the Yoruba country, support the president.
“We don’t need to talk too much,” he remarked. The Villa is completely occupied. Anyone rushing about is only doing so to increase the number of votes cast for Asiwaju and us. In terms of garnering votes for Asiwaju, the TSG is performing admirably.
“The purpose of this visit is to demonstrate to the world that the Yoruba people in the United States, and consequently all Nigerians in the United States, support Asiwaju.”
Director General, TSG, Dr Umar Tanko Yakasai thanked the group for coming to give back to the country.
“Some Nigerians when they travel, they forget home and think that they are in developed countries and so don’t want to associate with the rest of us here,” he said.
Yakasai praised them for their works in the US, saying it was unfortunate that people tend to focus on the few bad eggs giving Nigeria a bad name in other countries as opposed to the majority of hardworking Nigerians doing great in their various fields.
He praised them for sticking to their principles and recalled how the organization had backed Tinubu in 2023.
Yakasai called on them to organize and cast their ballots at home, emphasizing that every vote matters.
In an effort to curb medical tourism, he also urged medical professionals living abroad to create a sophisticated mentorship program for aspiring Nigerian medical experts.
