The government of Taraba State has refuted rumors that it had chosen Hamman-Adama Adamu, the current deputy speaker of the state assembly, to be the state’s next deputy governor.
In a press briefing, Zainab Jalingo, the state commissioner for information, called the information false and insisted that Aminu Alkali, the current deputy governor, is still Taraba State’s duly elected deputy governor and that there is no vacancy in the position.
As a result, the state government urged the populace to maintain composure and trust information that has been confirmed by official government channels.
The Taraba State Government has taken notice of a rumor circulating on social and traditional media that claims Alhaji Hamman Adama has been nominated as the state’s next deputy governor by His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the executive governor of Taraba State.
“The public should completely dismiss this allegation because it is completely untrue, deceptive, and evil.
We would like to make it clear that the position of Deputy Governor is filled. According to the commissioner, Taraba State’s legitimately elected deputy governor is still Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali.
She further disclosed that the process of replacing a Deputy Governor, as contained in the Nigerian Constitution, is clear, due legislative and constitutional procedures is required and such process has not been initiated or contemplated at this time.
The state government restated its commitment to remain focused on delivering good governance and will not be distracted by unfounded speculations.
“The public is urged to maintain composure and to only trust information that has been confirmed by official government communication channels. The Nigerian Constitution clearly states that certain legislative and constitutional procedures must be followed in order to replace a deputy governor. At this point, no such procedure has been started or is being considered.
She continued, “The Taraba State Government is committed to providing good governance and will not be sidetracked by baseless rumors.”
