Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, has denied rumors that he intends to quit the All Progressives Congress.
This was said by the former senator from Imo West in a statement released today by Sam Onwuemeodo, his special adviser on media.
Additionally, Okorocha denied a recent allegation that said he called the APC a party determined to seize power, claiming that his critics had made it up.
Okorocha claimed that he was unable to make such a claim about his party because he was a founding member of the ruling party.
He stated that he would refrain from using social media to voice any worries he had about the party.
Several years after serving as Imo West’s senator and nearly eight years after stepping down as Imo State’s executive governor, people who are afraid of Rochas Okorocha still have trouble sleeping.
“For days now, they have circulated a fake story on social media, falsely quoting me as saying: ‘APC is no longer a political party but a party desperate to hijack power at all costs. I am at the corner staring at them, he said.
“A party that has been in control since 2015 and is still going strong would never be described as “desperate to grab power” by Okorocha. Again, what power?
“Okorocha is still a sincere and devoted APC member. The statement states, “He never made the statement being circulated by those envious of his political journey.”
As the only current South-East governor to join the APC during its formation, Okorocha said that he was taking a chance on winning reelection in 2015, when the party was not very popular in the area.
When prominent South-East politicians questioned the APC’s sustainability, Okorocha made a political gamble. Despite being made fun of for his choice, he remained steadfast.
The statement also said that because of his commitment, he was unanimously chosen by other APC governors to serve as the first Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, which he helped to strengthen.
