Only 200 young people from the South-East have signed up for the nation’s ongoing Army recruiting, according to Brig.-Gen. Chima Ekeator, the leader of the Army Force Headquarters recruiting Sensitization Team in Anambra.
Ekeator revealed the information during a sensitization event for the state’s young leaders and president-generals (P-Gs) of several villages.
According to him, young people in the different areas needed to be encouraged to take part in the exercise.
Records show that only 200 people from the South-East have registered, but at least 4,000 people have done so in other states, making this sensitization vital.
“We are urging P-Gs and youth leaders to visit their neighborhoods, speak with young people, and persuade them to participate in the recruitment process.
Ekeator stated that more young people joining the force would improve the South-East’s representation and guarantee that the region’s quota is used to its fullest potential.
The governor of Anambra, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, promised in a statement that the government would keep raising awareness of the exercise and encouraging young people to participate.
Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Aghambah, advised traditional rulers and P-Gs to participate in mobilising 10 youngsters each from their areas to join the Army through the ongoing recruitment.Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, stated that the recruitment encouraged young people between the ages of 18 and 22 to join the Army.
