Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, said Thursday that he is confident the ruling party will win the general elections in 2027 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Ganduje predicts that in addition to winning the presidency, the APC will also take control of the two House of Representatives seats in the Federal Capital Territory and the one Senate seat, which is presently held by Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party.
In the 2023 presidential election, despite being the ruling party, the APC lost the FCT, the seat of power, to the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
In Lagos State, the political godfather, Obi also defeated Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
However, Ganduje said that the political landscape had shifted and that the APC now controlled more than 60% of the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring a decisive win in 2027, while speaking in Abuja on Thursday while welcoming a large number of defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Christopher Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, led the group of defectors.
According to the APC, Maikalangu moved over to the APC alongside 12 ward councillors and over 20,000 sympathizers.
At a “Unity Rally” on Thursday in Abuja, Ganduje and Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed them.
Ganduje told the gathering that the APC would produce two members of the House of Representatives and the FCT’s sole senator as a result of Thursday’s political shift.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have begun to see that FCT will be converted to the APC as part of that Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added. The Chairman of AMAC, the most well-liked local government in the Federal Capital Territory, is a huge political figure today.
“The chairman has chosen to join our fantastic party, the APC, together with all of his elected council members, appointees, and PDP politicians. He has thousands of supporters with him.
We also have Bwari Area Council decampees. There are decampees from the Kwali Area Council, the Gwagwala Area Council, the Abaji Area Council, and the Kuje Area Council. More than 60% of the Federal Capital Territory is now APC, as are nearly all politicians and citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, Akpabio also commended the defectors for their choice to join the APC.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its progress in infrastructure, security, and energy, noting these as key achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He stated, “This harvest of new members shows that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering results. We urge the decampees to bring their energy and experience to strengthen the party.”
Also speaking at the event, former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, declared that there is no vacancy in the Aso Rock presidential villa in 2027.
He stated, “President Bola Tinubu will overwhelmingly be re-elected to continue with the good work he is doing for the country.
“Let me tell you that this mandate that Mr President is carrying is the mandate of the people and the people of this country have spoken and I want to assure you that come 2027, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.
“I will use this opportunity to, once again, appreciate all founding fathers of our party. Mr President, Bola Tinubu, played a significant and very pivotal role in ensuring that we have a party we are all trooping to join today.
“Our former President as the first President under the platform of the APC, former President Muhammadu Buhari, has said it time without number that he remains a father in the APC and he is a member of the APC.
“Let nobody mistake it that Mr President and former President have any issue. In fact, they continue to confer in moving this country forward. So, we have the APC intact. I call on all other members of the party, who have one issue or the other, you can’t build a house and run away from it. I urge everybody, let’s come together and unite. Other political parties are just going to be escorting us to the Villa come 2027.
“Come back. When you are inside the APC, and you are making your demands, you are talking; but if you leave APC and you are outside the APC, and you are making demands, you are simply making noise and those of us that are inside the APC we will tell you to keep quiet. Therefore, the APC is the owner of Nigeria today and tomorrow.”
Also speaking, the APC National Vice Chairman (North-Central), Muazu Bawa Rijau, described the moment as historic.
“This is not just a defection; it’s a statement. A sitting AMAC Chairman and his team joining APC shows that we are on course for victory in 2027.”
While introducing the defectors to the party’s national leadership, the APC FCT Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman, assured that under his leadership, the party would intensify its efforts to ensure the ruling party takes control of the nation’s capital in the 2027 general elections.
“We are cruising on the boat of success. Over 20,000 people from AMAC alone have joined today, and more are coming from other councils. The APC is prepared and positioned to win in 2027,” he said.
