Claims that President Bola Tinubu is a political liability to Northern Nigeria have been rejected by Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defense, who called the stories “baseless and politically motivated.”
Citing the administration’s advancements in infrastructure, security, and national cohesion, the former governor of Zamfara State referred to President Tinubu as “an asset to the North and the nation” in a statement released on Friday and signed by his Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Goga.
“President Tinubu has shown a remarkable dedication to tackling the issues confronting our area.
Matawalle claimed that those who are using propaganda against him are merely looking for attention after failing to ensure their political future.
In order to hide their past shortcomings and their exclusion from the current Federal Government’s crucial appointments, he charged several members of the political elite with supporting false information.
“These people had the chance to take over, but they didn’t leave any lasting impact. These days, they portray themselves as the people’s protectors, appealing to pity with lies and crocodile tears,” he continued.
Matawalle commended the security measures taken by the Tinubu-led government, citing Operation Fansan Yamma in particular, which he claimed had destroyed 200 terrorist camps and neutralized more than 65 infamous bandit leaders.
“Our security forces, backed by the President’s proactive strategies, have recorded remarkable successes.
“This Easter and Ramadan season were among the most peaceful in years for many northern communities,” he noted.
He highlighted ongoing federal infrastructure projects, including the Zaria-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto expressway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to the North’s development.
“These projects were abandoned for years, but President Tinubu has revived them. Critics deliberately ignore these achievements because they do not serve their narrative,” he said.
Matawalle urged Northerners not to fall for divisive rhetoric but to stand united behind the President in pursuit of peace, development, and a secure future.
“We must be part of the solution, not the problem. The North stands to gain more through unity and support for a working leadership,” he concluded.
