The dates for the start of Continuous Voter Registration, or CVR, have been provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, Osun State Office.
This comes after INEC formally declared August 8, 2026, as the date of Osun State’s gubernatorial election.
The CVR is set to start on August 18, 2025, for the first phase, and August 25, 2025, for the second phase, according to information provided by Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Mutiu Agboke during a meeting with Electoral Officers, or EOs, on Monday in Osogbo.
Agboke added that the purpose of the gathering was to evaluate the Electoral Officers’ preparedness for the next CVR exercise.
He added that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss operational matters and overall readiness in advance of the CVR.
According to him, “the purpose of the meeting was to assess the current situation regarding the CVR since it would offer a forum for internal evaluation prior to interacting with broader stakeholders.”
“Online registration will start on August 18 and physical, in-person registration will start on August 25,” he clarified. Before we start, it’s critical that we comprehend one another and coordinate our approaches.
Dr Agboke emphasised the need to know their mindset, the level of reality in order to effectively respond to challenges and make adequate preparations for a successful exercise.
He also noted that the second part of the meeting would involve a general assessment of INEC local government offices focusing on infrastructure, logistics, and workforce readiness.
“We want to critically examine INEC local governments offices and their officers to ensure everything is in order.
“The meeting is crucial for us to talk to ourselves and have an understanding before we bring the general stakeholders on board,” Dr. Agboke added.
He commended the EOs for their determination and resilience in keeping their offices operational despite the challenges.
“Thank you for your dedication to making sure the INEC LG offices continue to operate efficiently in the lead-up to the exercise,” he said.
Abdulkadir Azeez, the EO of Ifelodun Local Government and chairman of the Osun Electoral Officers Forum, thanked the REC for his leadership.
Azeez also praised the REC’s efforts to enhance the Osun INEC Office’s operations.
It has been heartening that you have faith in us as EOs. We value the REC’s open-door policy and ongoing involvement,” he stated.
He gave the REC his word that every Electoral Officer in the state is ready for the registration process.”We have been striving for this, and we are still optimistic that the CVR will function flawlessly. We are prepared, and I can attest to each EO’s skill and proficiency in this state,” Azeez said in closing.
