Nasir el-Rufai, the immediate former governor of Kaduna State, outperformed incumbent Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister, according to Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory.
She pointed out that this is true even though the former governor of Rivers State has been pushing for infrastructure in Abuja.
Kingibe made the comments on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program.
The legislator emphasized that Wike is out of touch with the actual needs of the people and said that Wike’s projects in the capital city are not helping regular Abuja citizens.
She maintained that one had to look beyond infrastructure if they want to be a successful FCT Minister.
The senator disagreed with those who praised Wike’s performance in Abuja, stating that his projects don’t deal with the everyday financial hardships faced by people in the Federal Capital Territory.
“El-Rufai is the minister who has done the most in the FCT, according to everybody who has worked there. Why? In addition to constructing roads, El-Rufai attended to the necessities of the populace.
“When the people had a big issue, El-Rufai was the kind of minister who didn’t take the senator to ordinary people like me and tell them, ‘Oh, the place you have moved the abattoir to, there’s no infrastructure,'” she added.Kingibe also emphasized that in order to correctly identify and solve areas of inadequacy, a minister needs to be sensitive to the concerns of the populace.
