Following Chelsea’s 2-0 victory against Fluminense in Tuesday’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final, forward Joao Pedro has voiced conflicted feelings.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Pedro played a key role in guaranteeing Chelsea’s spot in the final by scoring both goals in the game played in the United States. The Brazilian, a former player for Fluminense, acknowledged that the win was bittersweet, though.

After the game, the 23-year-old told FIFA, “I have mixed feelings.” I’m sorry about the two objectives. This is what I do. It saddens me to see some of the staff members I know and some of the athletes I played with upset.

Pedro went on: “I know this was their dream, so it’s hard to see their sadness.” I apologize, but the Fluminense supporters are aware of my deep affection for the team. One day, I want to go back to Fluminense. Although I cannot foresee the future, I want to meet you again.

The Premier League team won thanks to Pedro’s brace, and they will now play the winner of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s second semi-final in Sunday’s final at the MetLife Stadium.
