Nelson Abiam, a former defender for the Kano Pillars, wrote a heartfelt farewell letter to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following his transfer to Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithuania.
Abiam, who praised the league for helping to mold him into a professional, signed a three-year contract with the Lithuanian team on Thursday.
Abiam featured in Wikki Tourists, Nasarawa United, Rangers, Doma United, Kano Pillars, and Enyimba in the NPFL.

“Every club has been crucial to my growth, both on and off the field, starting with my early days at Wikki Tourists and continuing through the worthwhile experiences I had at Nasarawa United, Enugu Rangers, Doma United, Kano Pillars, and Enyimba.
“I have a particular place in my heart for Doma United since I had the honor of becoming the first defender in NPFL history to finish a season as the team’s top scorer with five goals in the 2023–2024 season. I will always be grateful for that accomplishment.
The NPFL has been more than just a league to me; it has been my foundation, my teacher, and my launchpad. As I begin a new chapter with FK Žalgiris Vilnius in the Lithuanian top division, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and strength that only the NPFL could have given.”
