Abdullah Kavukcu, the vice president of Galatasaray, has explained why the team shattered the Turkish football transfer record this summer by permanently acquiring Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
On Thursday, Osimhen became the most costly player in Turkish football history.
This comes after the Serie A champions’ Galatasaray activated Osimhen’s €75 million release clause to sign the Nigerian international.
“We had a dream, we started talking with my president in January,” Kavukcu remarked in reference to Galatasaray’s intention to sign Osimhen in a massive transfer deal (via Habersarikirmizi). We spoke with Victor after speaking with my president.
“We told Victor, ‘We want you to stay here permanently.'” He promised to remain with us. “Will you actually take him?”
“My president and our management put in a lot of effort. To remain at Galatasaray, Victor really sacrificed a lot.
“Today, football players from all over the world would be prepared to forfeit these numbers. He didn’t want to leave because of the immense passion for Galatasaray and the amazing atmosphere of devotion that our fans fostered.
