The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has stated that there was no recent vandalisation of rails of the $1.5bn Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge.
The NRC released the explanation following an online post stating that vandals invaded a part of the 156km standard gauge track opened in 2021 by former President Muhammadu BuhariCallistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer in a statement explained that a trending video was not current and did not occur on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge route as erroneously indicatedIt explained that the incident took occurred between 7th and 27th of August 2024, along the ancient narrow gauge line between Km 170 (Omi-Adio) and Km 240 (Erunmu), in the Oyo StateAccording to NRC internal correspondence dated 7th August 2024, the vandalised segment involves the narrow gauge line constructed on concrete sleepers
