Following his fifth consecutive AfroBasket triumph, Peter Obi celebrates D’Tigress.

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, has praised Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their incredible accomplishment of winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship for the fifth time in a row.

In a statement headlined “MISSION V ACCOMPLISHED,” which was made public on Monday, Obi praised the team’s achievement as evidence of their tenacity, camaraderie, and the unwavering spirit of Nigerian sportsmen.

D’Tigress, congratulations! You have once again demonstrated your dominance in African basketball.

Your victory is not just a win for Nigeria, but for the entire continent. To dominate this tournament five times in a row is no small feat, you’ve etched your names in history.” Obi stated.

He praised the players’ unwavering dedication and the energy they brought to every match, describing them as “fearless, fast, and unstoppable.”

“Thank you for pouring your hearts into every game and showing the world the strength of Nigerian excellence. Your effort, courage, and unity on the court were truly exceptional,” he added.

Obi also commended Head Coach Rena Wakama for her role in guiding the team to yet another historic milestone.

“To Coach Wakama, thank you for your vision, discipline, and championship mindset. You’ve led these amazing women with grace and determination,” Obi noted.

D’Tigress secured the title after a dominant performance against Mali in the final played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday, August 3.

The victory marks Nigeria’s unprecedented fifth straight AfroBasket championship, the first by any nation in the competition’s history
