A meeting that was supposed to take place in Lagos today has been rejected by Southern Nigerian PDP leaders, who call it exclusive and unrepresentative.
The party’s Zoning Committee called the gathering, known as the “PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit,” at the Legend Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
State chairmen, former governors, members of the National Assembly, and other important party stakeholders from the Southeastand South-South zones, however, claimed they were not consulted or invited.
Along with National Vice Chairman (South-East) Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hon. O.K. Chinda, the State Chairmen of Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers—Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Venatius Ikem, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, and Aaron Chukwuemeka—issued a statement on Thursday, stating that the meeting’s conclusions should not be acknowledged.
The PDP has consistently advocated for fairness, consultation, inclusivity, and group decision-making. Any gathering that disregards elected officials and important leaders betrays mistrust, sows discord, and jeopardizes party unity. As a result, we reject any conclusions drawn from this summit since they are neither legally binding nor indicative of the PDP in Southern Nigeria.Since the Zoning Committee has not yet submitted its report for party approval, the meeting is also premature and appears to be intended to further the interests of a select few.
