President Bola Tinubu has “permanently” eliminated a 5% tax on telecommunications services, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The unpopular tax will be eliminated for the third time by the federal government.
Aminu Maida, who is the executive vice-chairman of the NCC, informed newsmen in Abuja last week that the tax, which had been temporarily banned, has now been totally eliminated under new tax laws

The NCC boss said: “Before it was suspended, but now the president has been magnanimous to remove it entirely. He answered, “No, we cannot put this on Nigerians,” as I was in a room when it was brought up. When the bills arrived and we realized that his words were kept, I was overjoyed.
