Governor Chukwuma Soludo was not involved in the suspension of Abuchi Udemezue, the representative for the Ayamelum Constituency, according to the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Ejike Okechukwu, the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, called the accusations “false, baseless, and mischievous” in a statement.
The Assembly claimed it had to react to a press release that criticized Udemezue’s suspension and was issued by a few federal lawmakers from the Anambra North Senatorial Zone who were members of the Labour Party.
Although the House would typically have disregarded such remarks, Okechukwu pointed out that it became imperative to correct the record and shield the public from deception.
The chairman of the committee stated that Udemezue’s use of offensive and unparliamentary language on social media, including calling colleagues “mad men,” after being asked to defend himself, was the sole reason for the disciplinary action against him.
“The Executive was not involved in the decision to discipline Hon. Udemezue; rather, it was solely an internal legislative matter. The House’s standing orders and the constitution bind each member. According to the statement, “no one is above discipline.”
