Afrobeats musician Davido has spoken out about his association with Ramon Abbas, often known as Hushpuppi, a troubled Nigerian socialite and scammer.
Despite their friendship, Davido asserted that he was ignorant of his fraudulent activities.
In a recent podcast interview, the singer pledged that Hushpuppi, who is incarcerated in the United States, would soon be released and showed his sympathy with him.
The commander of the 30 Billion Gang asserted that one of the reasons why individuals turn to illicit enterprises in order to escape poverty is the adversity in Nigeria.
“Hushpuppi is coming out soon,” he said. He had a life. For me, being incarcerated is not worth it. However, I will not excuse them [fraudsters]. There are others who are content to ball for five years and then stop.
In Nigeria, there is a kind of hardship you would face and you will be like, you know what? Let me ball for two years then I am good.
“People are like that. My prayers go out to him [Hushpuppi]. He was my friend. I just see him around, I never really knew what he was doing. But he lived a good life.”
