Biafra: Lawyer: Ekpa’s conviction is not comparable to Kanu’s persecution

Barrister Abuja-based human rights lawyer Christopher Chidera has refuted the idea that Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa are similar.

It was announced on Monday that a Finnish court had found self-declared Biafran leader Simon Ekpa guilty.

Chidera, a member of the global defense team for Nnamdi Kanu, took issue with any comparison of the two agitators.

The social media post “From Finland to Nigeria: What Ekpa’s Conviction Teaches Us About Kanu and the Biafran Question” prompted this response.

The article frequently draws comparisons between Kanu’s ongoing legal troubles in Nigeria and Ekpa’s conviction in Finland.

“Let it be clear from the outset: this article is not journalism; it is propaganda—crafted to deceive the public and to prepare the ground for a judicial ambush against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ahead of his next court date,” the attorney said in a statement on Monday, rejecting the comparison.

Ekpa, who falsely claimed to be Biafra’s prime minister, was found guilty of acts related to terrorism.

In a previous statement, IPOB stated that they are not worried about Ekpa’s conviction and that he would shoulder his responsibilities alone.

Chidera asserts that Kanu’s situation is essentially distinct from Ekpa’s.
