A coalition led by the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group, Makinde 2027, has declared plans to buy the nomination and declaration of intent forms for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, since the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
In Bauchi, the group revealed the information to reporters covering the 2027 PDP presidential contest.
Lawal Abdullahi, speaking for the coalition, called Makinde the most credible candidate for the PDP, pointing out that he is the only politician from the South who can mount a serious challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Like President Tinubu, Seyi Makinde hails from the South-West,” he said. He will be overwhelmingly supported by the North, which is unhappy with the current APC-led government, as well as by the majority of the region.
Abdullahi disclosed that months prior to the PDP zoning decision, the group had started mobilizing for Makinde’s candidacy. He recalled that posters calling on Makinde to run for president had been distributed throughout the FCT and the 19 northern states.
“Our task has become much easier now that the zoning is in his favor,” he said. “Without putting undue strain on anyone, we will step up our efforts to rally like-minded Nigerians to raise the funds for the two forms.”
He also emphasized that the movement’s goal is to save Nigeria and urged supporters across the country to personally support the cause.
Oyo State is now a shining example of good governance thanks to Governor Seyi Makinde. He has the ability and know-how to successfully lead Nigeria. We are supporting him because of this,” Abdullahi said.
