To address disruptive graduation “sign-out” practices and reorient citizens to national values, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has started a national campaign.
Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of NOA, launched the campaign on Tuesday at the federal secretariat in Bauchi.
For secondary and college students, the sign-out graduation ceremony has become a mainstay. In order to celebrate a new beginning and mark the end of an era, it entails using permanent markers to write messages and signatures on plain white shirts or school uniforms.
Nonetheless, a number of states have voiced their concerns about certain students’ conduct during the celebration.
Concerned about students’ unruly conduct during graduation ceremonies, Issa-Onilu emphasized that such behavior should no longer be accepted. “This unruly behavior must be opposed,” he stated.
Through press conferences, town hall meetings, school visits, market rallies, roadshows, and advocacy visits, the campaign will be implemented in all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and 774 local government areas.
Apart from disaster preparedness and student behavior, the program will emphasize national security awareness, reorienting youth values, and enhancing reverence for Nigerian identity and symbols.
