Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has started encouraging former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) members to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections by joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The bloc is still united and prepared to work for Tinubu’s reelection, according to Abbas, who joined the House in 2011 on the CPC platform. He called their loyalty “unconditional.”
The Speaker made the commitment at a meeting with President Tinubu and other former CPC leaders at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, according to his spokesperson, Abdullahi Musa Krishi.
I promise you our unwavering support on behalf of all CPC members. He claimed that over 90% of those who actively participated in the CPC were represented here.
In addition to supporting him, Abbas promised Tinubu that the group would launch a national campaign to rally support for his second term.
He clarified that this was the first time in many years that so many former CPC members had come together to publicly express their gratitude to Tinubu. At the meeting, he said, over 90 percent of CPC veterans were represented.
Abbas declared that in order to boost their efforts, a group called Former CPC Members for Asiwaju would be established at the state, local, ward, and polling unit levels in order to garner support from the ground up.
The Speaker also praised Tinubu for honoring the late President Muhammadu Buhari, the founder of the CPC, after his passing and for having played a significant part in his political career.
He added that several former members of the CPC are currently serving as governors, ministers, and lawmakers, demonstrating the party’s influence in Tinubu’s administration.
