The captain of South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, Ronwen Williams, has stated that it is crucial for the squad to win as many points as possible against Nigeria.
On Tuesday night, Hugo Broos’ team will play the Super Eagles at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein in a pivotal Group D match.
Bafana Bafana has 16 points from seven games, which puts them in the lead in Group C.
With seven points from the same amount of games, the Super Eagles are further behind in third place.
If other games turn out well for South Africa, a victory over the Super Eagles will secure their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Williams, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, stated that they are solely focused on the Nigerian match and not on the outcome from other teams.
“Getting the work done is the most essential thing. Safa.net cited Williams as saying, “We want to do things our way and don’t want any favors from anyone.”
