South Africa vs. Nigeria: Osimhen’s injury details are confirmed

Victor Osimhen, a striker for Nigeria, suffered injury to his ankle ligament during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo.

Osimhen returned with his club Galatasaray to have scans.

He will therefore be unable to play in Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match against South Africa.

In a medical bulletin issued on Tuesday, Yener İnce, Galatasaray’s team physician, verified the scan results.

The injury to Osimhen’s ankle ligaments was described by İnce as “a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible.”

Osimhen hobbled off during the first half of the match and was replaced by Cyriel Dessers.

In the 51st minute, however, Tolu Arokodare scored the game-winning goal, and there are cries for the new Wolves striker to start in Bloemfontein.
