Douglas Ogbankwa, a former Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Benin Branch, has described the Senate’s suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as a case of “double standards”
Ogbankwa stated this on Wednesday, while responding to questions in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’.
He claimed that the Senate acted improperly by suspending the lawmaker while her case was still pending before the court.
One crucial aspect is adhering to the order of events. In one way or another, both parties have been in arbitration under the law. The Senate went ahead and suspended her while she was still in court. That is double standards in my opinion,” he stated.
As the BASEMEDIA remembers, on March 6, 2025, Natasha was suspended for six months following a furious altercation in the Senate chamber.
After being charged with violating Senate rules, the lawmaker has since filed a legal challenge, claiming that both her and her constituents’ rights were infringed.Despite the senator’s disrespectful behavior in the chamber, Ogbankwa insisted that the Senate lacked the constitutional power to suspend her.
