The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Osun State chapter has explained that the union’s declared industrial action is still indefinite.
This is because it characterized reports that the strike was a three-day warning strike as untrue and irrational, with the intention of undermining the union’s justifiable struggles.
Comrade Idris Adeniran, the union’s chairman, signed a statement on Thursday that clarified this.
BASEMEDIA remembers that on Monday, September 22, 2025, JUSUN in Osun State began new industrial action due to unresolved issues regarding delayed promotions and staff welfare.
Earlier, on Friday, September 19, following an extraordinary union congress, the chairman of Osun JUSUN issued a directive in a communiqué.
The union claimed that despite prior correspondence and an ultimatum, the state’s Judicial Service Commission—which is led by Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, the state’s Chief Judge—had not contacted the union.
“Let me be clear: we stand unwavering in our commitment to realizing our demands, and our strike action remains indefinite,” the statement says.
The chairman of JUSUN urged members, attorneys, and the public at large to ignore the false information and to exercise caution.
“Attempts to weaken our resolve or undermine our unity will not deter us,” he continued.
To further strengthen unity, the State Executive Council of JUSUN also invited all judiciary employees to take part in a demonstration on Thursday morning at the High Court Gate, the Osun State Judiciary headquarters.
“This assembly is a sign of our solidarity and resolve to defend our rights and fight for justice. We implore every member to fully endorse this endeavor and ensure their opinions are heard,” Adeniran said.
The chairman of Osun JUSUN maintained that the union’s demands were focused on two main points: “improving welfare conditions, including benefits and general well-being, and timely and merit-based promotions.”Our demands are long overdue, reasonable, and valid. The statement said, “We will continue to fight until our rights are acknowledged and they are fully met by Hon. Justice Adepele Ojo, the Honourable Chief Judge of Osun State.”
