Some medical professionals from outside the state and the nation have applied for the state’s ongoing hiring of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff, according to Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
He revealed that South Africa, Zambia, and a few other Nigerian states had submitted applications thus far.
During his monthly media chat at Government House in Umuahia on Thursday night, Otti revealed that the applications from outside Abia and Nigeria demonstrated the trust that the outside world has in his government.
He reaffirmed that the 771 medical professionals would be hired on the basis of merit, with various tests being administered to determine who would be the most qualified candidates.
He declared that more Primary Healthcare Centers had been operationalized throughout the state and that his administration would make sure that the PHCs’ medical staff had accommodations so that they could provide efficient, round-the-clock care.
Speaking about Abia’s agricultural initiatives, the governor claimed that the policy would also stop rural-urban migration and that Abia farmers were being assisted in transitioning from subsistence to commercial production.
He stated that 45,000 farmers have been counted thus far and that a technological system has been implemented to identify and track legitimate farmers in the State.
Otti was also pleased that Oggbonnaya Onu Polytechnic had re-accredited all 33 of its courses, the majority of which had previously been withdrawn by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
