Festus Osifo, the president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, or PENGASSAN, has confirmed that Dangote Refinery fired all of its Nigerian employees after they joined the union, causing a new crisis in the country’s oil industry.
In a Friday exclusive interview with BASEMEDIA, he disclosed this.
The 650,000 barrel per day refinery fired all of its Nigerian employees 24 hours after they joined PENGASSAN, according to a BASEMEDIA report.
Osifo, who also served as the president of the Nigerian Trade Union Congress, responded by promising that the business would change the ruling.
It is true, indeed. Late on Wednesday night, we witnessed the latter.
He told BASEMEDIA, “I can guarantee you that they will remember every one of them.”
As of the time this report was filed, Anthony Chijiena, the spokesperson for the Dangote Group, had not yet responded to BASEMEDIA’s inquiry.
Recall that the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and Dangote Refinery have been at odds over worker unionization for several weeks.
Prior to its suspension following the Federal Government’s intervention, NUPENG had declared a strike.
Dangote Refinery recently obtained an interim injunction that prevented the union and its affiliates from going on strike.
The temporary order, meanwhile, has since ended.
