The player who helped Arsenal defeat the Magpies 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday has been revealed by Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United.
Before the Gunners equalized in the 85th minute and went on to win the match in the 95th minute of extra time, Newcastle had a 1-0 lead.
Howe believes that the difference was made by Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, who in as a replacement in the second half.
At St. James’ Park, Nick Woltemade put Newcastle ahead in the first half, and they held off until the end of the second half, when Mikel Merino came off the bench to tie the score.
Then, deep into injury time, Brazilian defender Gabriel headed home a spectacular winner from Odegaard’s corner.
“It hurts to have two really late goals here at home,” Howe remarked after the game.We must examine ourselves and admit that we weren’t at our best.
“I believe Odegaard had an impact on their performance as a whole. Eventually, the pressure’s weight became apparent. Not that we didn’t try, but the small things have cost us.
Arsenal reduced the gap between them and Liverpool to two points after the win.
Mikel Arteta’s team capitalized on Liverpool’s previous Saturday loss to Crystal Palace.
