The Jigawa State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Health to launch an investigation into the multi-billion naira contract for upgrading the Kiyawa Cottage Hospital to a General Hospital.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Usman Abdullahi Tura, revealed this to journalists on Thursday, explaining that the move comes in response to multiple complaints lodged by the Kiyawa Development Committee regarding alleged irregularities by the contractor handling the project.
Tura stated that under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, the Assembly has tasked the committee to urgently examine the contract’s award process, its execution, and to uncover any issues hindering the successful completion of the hospital upgrade, equipment supply, and installation.
He noted that Governor Malam Umar Namadi and the Speaker recently visited the hospital during a citizens’ engagement forum in Kiyawa, where local residents also raised concerns about the project. Defects in the hospital structure were reportedly observed during the visit.
