Funmi, the ex-wife of former presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has called allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was sponsoring her to attack her ex-husband reckless and unfounded.
She accused Olawepo-Hashim of using diversionary tactics to deflect from claims of child neglect. Last week, she alleged that he had neglected their twin children, failing to pay for their school fees and upkeep in the United Kingdom.
Funmi cited a Federal High Court, Abuja, judgment by Justice Gladys Olotu, which ordered Olawepo-Hashim and his company to pay N300 million in damages for breach of corporate governance. She added that since their separation in 2017, he had not communicated with their children for nine years and ignored reminders about outstanding tuition fees.
Olawepo-Hashim, however, claimed that political actors within the APC were behind the allegations through Funmi, describing the claims as part of a smear campaign to tarnish his reputation ahead of the 2027 elections.
In response, Funmi rejected the assertion, calling it false, malicious, and a diversion from his longstanding neglect both as a parent and financially. She dismissed claims that she attempted to involve the UK Government or the National Intelligence Agency, emphasizing that his abandonment of parental responsibilities was his personal choice and that he alone must be held accountable.
