The House of Representatives promised to reveal anomalies and guarantee accountability in the use of public funds when it launched an investigation yesterday into the purported mishandling of cash intended for oil spill cleanup efforts in the Niger Delta. Okpolupm Etteh, the chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Mismanagement of Oil Spill Clean-Up Funds, said the exercise was a crucial step in bringing justice and transparency back to impacted communities, especially in Ogoniland, during the opening of a public hearing Thursday at the National Assembly Complex in AbujaHe clarified that in order to ascertain if the clean-up money were utilized in accordance with the projects’ goals, the committee would carefully review the management of the funds from allocation to execution.
