PDP in Zamfara is declining under Matawalle and Yari—APC

The Zamfara State All Progressives Congress (APC) is openly taking credit for the unraveling of the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to APC Publicity Secretary Alhaji Yusuf Idris, the political influence and support of Dr. Bello Matawalle (Minister of State for Defence) and Senator Abdulaziz Yari are successfully “shrinking” the PDP by inspiring politicians to defect.

The latest win for the APC is the defection of Hon. Maharazu Faru, the State House of Assembly member for Maradun II, who switched allegiance along with five PDP Ward Chairmen and hundreds of supporters in a grand ceremony.

Faru attributed his move to Governor Dauda Lawal’s failure to deliver on campaign promises, especially regarding insecurity, and accused his administration of neglecting the Maradun II constituency and treating PDP members with “injustice and unfairness.” Faru further claimed that the PDP is now consumed by a “crisis at all levels,” which explains why so many PDP governors and members are jumping ship to the APC.

Essentially, the APC is celebrating its ‘headhunting’ success, arguing that the PDP’s collapse is a direct result of Governor Lawal’s poor performance and the overwhelming political gravity created by the Matawalle-Yari duo.
