The Federal High Court in Abuja denied former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido’s request to immediately block the PDP from holding its upcoming National Convention.
Lamido had filed an ex parte motion (a request heard without the other party present) to halt the convention pending a full hearing of his lawsuit.
Instead of granting the temporary ban, Justice Peter Lifu ordered the defendants—the PDP and INEC—to appear before the court and “show cause” (provide a legal reason) why the court should not grant Lamido the final relief he seeks.
Essentially, the court didn’t stop the convention but did put the ball in the PDP and INEC’s court to defend their actions. The development came as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and other PDP leaders were present at the court ahead of the ruling.
