Horst Steffen, the manager of Werder Bremen, has once again criticized Nigerian striker Victor Boniface for his lackluster performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Mainz. The striker, who is now on loan from Leverkusen, has not impressed at the club, and their match with Mainz was no exception. Steffen publicly expressed his displeasure with the forward’s performance. Bild, a German sports publication, gave Boniface a 5 for his lackluster effort during the game’s 90 minutes, indicating that he struggled to make an impression. The Super Eagles forward was only able to complete 28 touches and 53 percent of his passes, failed to hit any shots on goal, and did not contribute any assists.”He tried to hold onto the ball up front,” Steffen remarked of Boniface after the game, as Bild reported. “I told myself today, ‘Come on, he can do even better.'” In seven league games this season, Boniface has only contributed one assist for Werder. After the Nigerian failed to score during their 0–3 loss to Freiburg on matchday 4, Steffen had previously criticized Boniface. The striker, according to Steffen, “was too ‘everywhere’ for me.”
