The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, denied a report that he accused the United States of attempting to steal Nigeria’s resources. The report also claimed Kumuyi stated there is no Christian genocide in the country. In response, the church issued a statement threatening legal action against those spreading false news and insisted Kumuyi gave no such interview, as he has been preoccupied with ministry duties. The statement condemned the “malicious and entirely false” report from the platform “Ibomfocus.” It declared the story, headlined: “America is Trying to Steal our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, says Pastor Kumuyi,” a “total fabrication.” The church confirmed Kumuyi had not held a press conference or made the statement in Lagos, noting he has been outside Nigeria for a long time conducting programs. The ministry further stressed that Kumuyi is known for solely preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and does not involve himself in politics. The ministry warned that future attempts to involve the General Superintendent in politics or fabricate stories in his name “may attract action.”
