Fourteen candidates contesting the forthcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, election signed a peace pact on Sunday in Ibadan.
The signing event, intended to ensure a free and fair election fixed for December 9, 2025, was attended by a police representative (ACP Coker Shado), former NUJ Chairman Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, and outgoing Chairman Ademola Babalola.
The candidates signed the accord for the seven executive positions (chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, assistant secretary, and internal auditor).
Signatories included: Adebayo Raji, Oladapo Olusola, Akeem Abas, Atilola Abiodun, Adeniji Olamide, Adu Dayo, Imran Khalid, Animashaun Rofiah, Ishola Olamiposi, Adebayo Abdul Rofih, Morenikeji Moses, Oladipo Bosede, Akinjola Olubode, and Alimi Nurudeen, representing various chapels/media houses.
Notably, the fifteenth candidate, Nwaoko Samuel of the Nigerian Tribune, was absent.
Ismail Fasasi, Chairman of the credentials screening committee, underscored the necessity of the pact, urging candidates and their supporters to demonstrate decorum and sportsmanship. He charged all stakeholders to adhere to the principles of the accord to ensure electorates can “exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”
