Contentious A court of competent jurisdiction in Kwara State has granted bail to Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, a Nigerian singer.
When the singer was prosecuted in court by the police on Monday in the case concerning alleged defamation of character, bail was granted.
The spokesperson for the Kwara Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed his arrest in a statement on Sunday. He explained that the singer’s arrest is based on a petition against him that contains serious allegations, including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of derogatory and abusive language.
Mr. Okunola Saheed, also referred to as “Saheed Osupa,” wrote the petition against the suspect.
Isaac Adebayo, Portable’s attorney, informed reporters on Monday that his client had been released on bond and that they were striving to comply with the strict requirements.
In addition to the funds, he revealed, the judge had mandated that Portable present the chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) in Kwara State and a person who had acquired property at GRA in the state capital of Ilorin.
