Rotimi Matthew, a policy and governance analyst, has praised the recent suspension of the 15% import tax on premium motor spirit (PMS), often known as gasoline and diesel, claiming that the President has chosen the people above monopolies. “You have demonstrated that being a leader is about standing with the most vulnerable people rather than caving in to the loudest interests. Nigerians express gratitude for this, he remarked.The President’s choice, he claimed, “breaks a pattern that has held the economy hostage for years.” In an article, he cautioned the President against taking any action to reinstate the tariff. “Under the pretense of “cost recovery,” they want to convince you to give the whole fuel market to a single private refinery,” he stated. They aim to persuade you that in order for one investor to break even tomorrow, Nigerians must pay through their noses now.
