COAS reiterates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating banditry and terrorism

Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to using increased professionalism, operational efficacy, and cooperative security cooperation to battle terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges throughout the nation.

At the opening of the Chief of Army Staff First Bi-Annual Conference 2026 at the Nigerian Army Conference Center in Abuja on Monday, Shaibu made this statement.

In order to discuss the nation’s security position and operational tactics, the conference brought together primary staff officers, formation commanders, heads of military installations, senior officers, regimental sergeant majors, and representatives of other security agencies.

According to the army chief, forces have continued to achieve operational gains in a number of theaters, especially in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions.

He claims that despite challenging operating conditions, soldiers have shown bravery, tenacity, and professionalism in ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations.

According to Shaibu, the Nigerian Army is still committed to upholding the nation’s sovereignty and establishing a safe environment that promotes socioeconomic activity.

He did, however, recognize that the military had encountered difficulties in certain operations, emphasizing that these difficulties would not impair soldiers’ determination to combat criminal forces endangering national security.

“Our journey has not been without setbacks, but the Nigerian Army remains resolute and committed to addressing all security challenges confronting our dear nation,” he declared.

The COAS stated that creative solutions, practical operational evaluations, and improved coordination amongst security agencies are necessary due to the evolving nature of security threats.

He did, however, recognize that the military had encountered difficulties in certain operations, emphasizing that these difficulties would not impair soldiers’ determination to combat criminal forces endangering national security.

The COAS stated that creative solutions, practical operational evaluations, and improved coordination amongst security agencies are necessary due to the evolving nature of security threats.

The COAS urged commanders and soldiers to uphold high standards and rigorous adherence to operational rules of engagement, emphasizing the significance of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism.

He promised the soldiers that Army Headquarters and the federal government will continue to support them while praising them for their patriotism and efforts in safeguarding the nation.
