Five suspected bandit/terrorist informants were captured by Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Savannah Shield (OPSS) troops in separate operations in Niger State as part of the state’s efforts to eradicate rebels.
According to a statement from Captain Jamilu Muhammed Yahaya, Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North Central) Operation Savannah Shield, troops also found cash, communication devices, and other materials that connected the suspects to criminal activity. In a different development, on June 6, 2026, troops conducting a routine fighting patrol along the Doro axis in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, arrested three suspected bandits and terrorist informants. According to investigations, the suspects were members of a bandit group operating in Duru, on the outskirts of Kainji Lake National Park.
Additionally, two Tecno keypad phones and an MP3 device with recorded propaganda and inciting messages claiming the kidnapping of a person in Kaduna State and collecting a ransom of sixty million Naira (₦60,000,000.00) and one hundred and thirteen thousand, four hundred Naira (₦113,400.00) were found by the troops.
It stated that while efforts are underway to capture further members of the criminal network, the suspects and recovered evidence are presently being held for additional investigation.
Similar to this, soldiers from JTF-NC OPSS’s 221 Battalion captured two suspected bandit/terrorist informants while on a routine patrol along the cantonment perimeter fence. Investigations revealed that the suspects had been sent as reconnaissance elements to obtain information about the cantonment.
A photograph of a beheaded person, dated May 2, 2026, was found on one of the suspects’ cell phones after further investigation revealed potential connections to terrorist activity.
One Android smartphone, one Tecno keypad phone, one motorcycle, and eighty-six thousand, one hundred Naira (₦86,100.00) in cash were among the items found on the accused. The suspects have been placed under arrest.
