After hinting that he is thinking about retiring from the Super Eagles, Alencia forward Sadiq Umar has voiced doubts about his international career.
The striker stated that no final decision has been made in an interview with Radio France International Hausa, stressing that his future with the national team will be assessed once the new season starts.
In an interview with Radio France International Hausa, he said, “I am thinking about retiring from the Nigerian national team, but I will finalize my decision when the new season starts.”
The football community has been talking about Nigeria’s failure to make it to the World Cup, and Umar acknowledged the disappointment without blaming anyone or pinpointing the reasons.
“I am unable to pinpoint the exact cause of our failure, but that is now in the past. The next World Cup is four years away, so we have to focus on that,” he said.
Concerns about his prolonged absence from recent Super Eagles selections were also voiced, to which Umar responded in a straightforward and collected manner, implying that the issue is more about competition than controversy.

When further questioned about whether age or motivation could impact his potential retirement decision, Umar highlighted personal reflection and long-term aspirations as significant factors influencing his thought process.

This is why I mentioned that I will wait for the commencement of the new season before making my choice, allowing me to contemplate what will aid me in concentrating on my career and sustaining my presence in football, similar to Cristiano Ronaldo
