As Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s group stormed the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday to meet with the national leadership over the crisis sparked by the alleged imposition of Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections in the state, the implosion in the ruling Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to intensify.
According to the DAILY POST, the governor’s camp’s action follows a forceful petition submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by ten candidates for governor who opposed the party’s recent primary election, which resulted in Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu as its nominee.
Members of the delegation were scheduled to leave Ilorin on a chartered flight, according to a source involved in the planning of the trip to Abuja.
The source claims that the choice to use a chartered aircraft was motivated by a wish to prevent public scrutiny of the movement’s specifics.
“We want to make sure that no one is aware of who is travelling. Thus, we are taking a chartered flight tomorrow, Monday, by 6 a.m., the source stated.
The governor’s group is scheduled to meet with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) members and national chairman.
As part of larger attempts to gain support for the governor’s stance on the current political developments within the state’s ruling party, the team is also anticipated to consult with Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
While the governor’s supporters maintain that the party is still cohesive and capable of resolving internal conflicts, political analysts and detractors believe that recent events show growing fissures in the state’s APC structure.
