Gunmen Steal Staff Devices and Rob Rhythm 94.7FM in Yenagoa

On Saturday, gunmen who were suspected of being armed robbers broke into Rhythm 94.7FM, a private radio station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and took goods from the station’s employees, including cell phones, recorders, and operating devices.
According to information obtained by Naija News, the gunmen broke into the station in the Swali neighborhood at approximately 4:40 p.m. and reportedly returned the next day to continue looting. Even though there were no fatalities during the incident, the staff members reportedly suffered from trauma. The Bayelsa State Council, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), strongly denounced the incident, calling it a blatant assault on press freedom and an insult to the state’s media community.

In a statement signed by the State Council Chairman, Tonye Yemoleigha, and the Secretary,  Stanley Imgbi, the union expressed concern over the growing insecurity affecting journalists and media houses.

“This attack is a rape on the entire media family in Bayelsa State, and an attack on press freedom,” the NUJ statement read.

The union urged the Bayelsa State security forces, particularly the Commissioner of Police, to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits.

They also appealed to the police commissioner to deploy a patrol van near the media house to enhance security, citing the radio station’s isolated location in Yenagoa.
