Abiodun releases the theme song, logo, and mascot for the National Sports Festival.

On Tuesday, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed the theme song, logo, and mascot for the 2024 National Sports Festival, which is scheduled to take place in the state from May 16 to May 30, 2025.

Abiodun also promised that the state will host “the most memorable, most inclusive, and most inspiring National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever seen,” as he was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The governor stated that even though the state hosted the sporting fiesta almost 20 years ago, it is more than prepared to welcome the nation once more with a number of new innovations that are set to redefine the national games festival during the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday night at the June 12 Cultural Centre.

According to Abiodun, the state is happy to highlight the ingenuity and skills of the theme song, which was written by Dr. Bayo Adepetun and is full of enthusiasm and rhythm. A talented team from the Ministry of Culture also brought the Mascot to life.

He claimed that the vitality, cultural legacy, and ambitions of the state’s decent citizens were mirrored in both pieces of art.

Abiodun disclosed that “The government has made significant investments in upgrading existing facilities and constructing new ones to meet world-class standards,” adding that the state has adequately prepared for a great excursion and hassle-free hosting.

These will service the 2024 Festival and act as a memento of the occasion for years to come. Our objective is unambiguous: to make Ogun State a premier location for sports tourism and athletic achievement in Nigeria. At the same time, we’re making sure our athletes are ready. I applaud the discipline and commitment our athletes, coaches, and technical staff are putting into the work at hand. Ogun State is fully behind you, and we have faith in you.

The governor added that sport is more than just a competition; but a unifier, a leveller, and a platform that could help launch some youths into both national and international stardom urging all parents to support their children participating in the national competition.

Abiodun, however, added that as much as the state is ready to host the sportsmen and women from all over the country, it needs the support of other stakeholders, including the residents of the state, the media among other partners for a successful and memorable hosting of 2024 NSF.

He said, “We are ready to host, but we need all hands on deck to make this a truly unforgettable celebration of talent, unity, and national pride.

“To our partners in the public and private sectors — come on board. To the media — help us spread the excitement. To all Nigerians — mark your calendars, plan your trips, and prepare to witness history.

“From May 16 to May 31, the heartbeat of Nigerian sports will be right here in Ogun State. Let’s make it count. Let’s make it spectacular. Let’s make it the best ever. Let’s make it Premium.”

Abiodun hailed the Local Organising Committee, under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, ably supported by Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, for working tirelessly to ensure the success of the games festival.
