In order to resolve the current ethnic conflicts and deaths throughout the nation, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, called President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday to halt his retreat in France and return home.
In a statement released through his official X account, Obi made the appeal.
The petition was made four days after the Presidency denied rumors that Tinubu traveled to France to consult with doctors, stating that the trip was for work.
The clarification was provided by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, during his appearance as a guest on Politics Today on Channels Television.
Bwala was responding to the assertion made by well-known politician and activist Omoyele Sowore that the President was traveling to France for medical treatment.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Sowore claimed that Tinubu’s departure was for medical treatment, despite his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, revealing that the former leader is scheduled to return to Nigeria in “about a fortnight.”
However, Obi cautioned that the President’s prolonged absence abroad will make the nation’s growing insecurity much worse.
“At this moment in our nation’s history, I feel obligated to draw our retreating President’s attention to the security issues at home. This means that he must immediately halt his current retreat in a foreign country and return home to confront the dire security situation throughout the nation,” he said.
Over 150 Nigerians have died as a result of insecurity throughout the country in the two weeks you have been gone, particularly in the Plateau and Zamfara states. The Niger Delta’s frequent pipeline explosions are another indication of a troubled country.
Leaders of Borno State are lamenting the resurgence of insurgency in the northeast, where soldiers and civilians are being slain at random. The tale is the same in the Southeast: kidnappings and murders. In the midst of all of this, the CEO of the problematic Nigerian company is fleeing to a remote location in France from the company’s headquarters.
Therefore, I would want to implore Mr. President to immediately halt his activities in France and return home so that he can accept responsibility by resolving these troubling concerns. The country wants a new Nigeria like that.
