Abia State government has intensified efforts to clean up markets, deploying tipper trucks to evacuate waste as part of a broader initiative to prevent food and water contamination.
Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, disclosed this in Aba during a sanitation inspection, stating the move aims to protect both the environment and public health.
He emphasized that regular waste removal will help maintain the quality of food sold in markets and eliminate foul odours. Ogbonna also stressed Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all citizens.
He called on market leaders and traders to support the initiative by taking active roles in maintaining cleanliness.
