The government of Abia State has promised to take tough measures and bring legal action against those who propagate untruths about the state.
As he briefed reporters on the results of this week’s executive council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti, Information Commissioner Okey Kanu revealed this on Monday.
He claimed that even though the state no longer uses the gestapo method to dehumanize and arrest people as it once did, it would not stand by and watch as certain people spread false information to alienate the populace.
He expressed concern about the prevalent false information being spread about the Abia State government, but he also promised that the people responsible for the publications would not be permitted to carry on with their activities.
Kanu stated, “The State government will no longer fold its arms and watch the people with such bad intentions publish falsehood, outright falsehood against the State government, even though this State government will not lend itself to the gestapo style of the past where people were arrested and their fundamental human rights were violated.”
He claimed that no information was being kept from the Abia people by the Alex Otti administration.
The Commissioner said that Governor Otti had inaugurated the State’s economic management team and that Kalu Ohuche, the Chief Economic Adviser of Abia State, had been sworn in on Friday.
He clarified that the functions of the Abia global economic advisory council, which was composed of Bolaji Balogun, Sanusi Mohammad, Arunma Otteh, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Emir of Kano, were not eliminated by the establishment of the Abia economic management team.
